Students eagerly wait for maiden coffee shop in Women’s College

Srinagar: To provide students some space to socialise and relax, authorities in Women’s College, M.A Road, Srinagar have decided to open a coffee shop –Cafe- within the campus.

The initiative was taken by the home science department in 2016 to construct a single storey cafe near the administrative block of the college.
Estimated to cost Rs 32 lakh, officials said that the engineering department will take some more time to complete the construction.

“The idea was to create a space for the student and the teachers where they would relax and have some good coffee. A special inauguration will be done after completing all the formalities,” said head home science department, Dr Tabasum.

She said that the cafe can house 15-20 persons at a time apart from the balcony above and lawn outside the shop.

Students are very excited about the initiative. “This is a novel concept that will attract everybody. The current scenario also promotes the cafes in a way too much so this will be a great opportunity to the students to enjoy their days with a cup of coffee,” said Sahiba, an arts student of the college.

A 1st semester media department student said that newness is highly extolled in today’s generation.
“Taking the concept from the University of Kashmir, Women’s College M.A Road also created one of its kind,” she said.

The cafe can also reduce the rush which the college canteen witnesses every day. “This initiative will also provide some employment opportunities. Not only becoming a hangout parlour but also a source of income to many,” said a teacher.
