GCW M. A. Road holds Cycle Race


Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road, Srinagar organised the annual cycle race on 30th April 2019 from Nehru Park to Nishat. Around 33 students participated in the cycle race. The cycle race was flagged off by Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai. Irfana (B.A. 5th semester student) covered the distance of 8 kms in 18.35 minutes to bag the first prize. Just few seconds behind was Hadia of B.A. second semester who bagged the second prize.

Guest lecture on the theme of punctuality

As part of the Punctuality Week observance, Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road Srinagar hosted a guest lecture by noted columnist and Producer EMMRC, Kashmir University, Mr. Aijaz-ul-Haque at the college auditorium on April 3, 2019 (Wednesday).
The lecture was attended by students of Ist, 3rd, 4th and 5th semester of the college. Principal, Govt. College for Women, Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai and faculty of the college was present on the occasion.

Tug-of-War tourney begins at GCW M. A. Road

The inter-group Tug-of-War tournament began at Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road Srinagar on May 4, 2019.
The event was inaugurated by Convener College Sports Committee at the college playground. In the opening match, Green defeated Yellow 2-0 while in the second match Red defeated Lemon 3-0. In the third match Maroon defeated Orange 2-0. The event was organised by Physical Education Department of the college. The final match will be played on Monday.

Interaction held on World Press Freedom Day (May 3, 2019)

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road Srinagar hosted an interaction session with noted journalist and media academician, Mr. Raashid Maqbool on May 3, 2019. Mr. Raashid delved on various dimensions, including the critical relationship between media and democracy. Mr. Raashid referred to the watershed moments of journalism. Guest Lecture on ‘Citizen Journalism’ (May 4, 2019)

A guest lecture on ‘Citizen Journalism in Indian context’ was organized for 4th semester students of English Honors who have opted for Citizen Journalism as their Generic Elective course on May 4, 2019. Dr. Rabia Noor (Assistant Professor, Dept of Journalism, IUST) was the resource person for the workshop which was held in the college conference hall. Event to welcome Batch 2019 (April 16, 2019)

Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Govt College for Women, M A Road, Srinagar organised a function on April 16 to welcome the 2019 batch. Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Welcoming the fresh batch, Prof. Ashai called on the students to be pro-active in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. When the former Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Dineshwar Sharma was appointed as the interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir in October 2017, it evoked mixed reaction from the civil society.
