DJMC hosts session on Mobile Journalism with DW producer

Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) hosted journalist, Mr. Rouf Fida for a guest talk on Mobile Journalism at the college conference hall on May 11, 2024.

Rouf is a senior video producer with Germany based international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle. He joined DW as a Junior Video Producer but in a short span of time he has risen to a senior position owing to an impressive body of work.

Rouf started his career as a video editor at ETV Bharat. He has also been a Reuters fellow. Rouf also did quite a bit of freelancing for some international organizations including Vice, Discovery World and National Geographic.

Mr. Rouf answered the queries of the students in an engrossing interaction session. He referred to the ways journalists gather and deliver news using only a mobile phone.

“Smartphones have developed so quickly that it is possible to record and edit broadcast quality video on these devices, as well as produce broadcast quality radio and multi-media slideshows,” he said.

Mr. Rouf illustrated how Mobile Journalists can be better storytellers while citing examples from DW. He also discussed other issues and the role and impact of mobile journalism.

Earlier, Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Dr. Suhail Ahmad briefed the audience about the impressive profile of the guest speaker. Dr. Suhail recalled his own association with the guest and said his talks have always been attracting audience owing to his unique articulation of ideas laced with wit and humour.
