Students eagerly wait for maiden coffee shop in Women’s College

Srinagar: To provide students some space to socialise and relax, authorities in Women’s College, M.A Road, Srinagar have decided to open a coffee shop –Cafe- within the campus.
The initiative was taken by the home science department in 2016 to construct a single storey cafe near the administrative block of the college.
Estimated to cost Rs 32 lakh, officials said that the engineering department will take some more time to complete the construction.

CM Scooty Scheme: 6 months on, students struggle to get documents

Srinagar: Hundreds of women students, who were provided scooties on subsidy by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, are struggling to get the registration certificates (RCs) of their vehicles even after six months.
 
The students say that the scooty dealers, who were asked to get the RCs of the vehicles, are dillydallying in providing them the documents even as the traffic department officials are ceasing the two-wheelers.

Women students break stereotypes, start businesses online

Srinagar: They are still in their college and have already established their businesses.
 
The urge to do something new and to “prove that girls are no less than boys” made these two friends, Rabiya Maqbool and Peerzadi Ainain, start their own apparel businesses, online.
The 21-year-old friends, both students of Women’s College MA Road, sell designer wears, Abhayas, Kaftans and other girl accessories by getting orders over social networking sites.

Sixteen-year-old Danish Rashid from Awantipora in Pulwama in south Kashmir has developed an educational android app “live school Kashmir” (www.liveschoolkashmir.com), predominantly for the students from class 8th to 12th. They can get the study materials, avail tutorials and generate questions.

In a dimly-lit room at Srinagar’s congested downtown, Mohammad Ayoub, 60, dusts his stacked collection of old newspapers.
Memoir of his ‘golden past’, the collection forces an expression of despair onto his face. Ayoub was a calligrapher who wrote countless newspapers with his hands in the pre-computer era. The way the silverfishes have eaten their way into the newspapers now reflects how the calligraphers and the calligraphy were jolted by the advent of technology.

‘I will die of wounds and pain’

Sitting uncomfortably on the cold floor of her kitchen, Shagufta Akther (name changed), in her early thirties, recounts the cruelty inflicted on her by her husband.
